Slamalamadingdong October Slam feat. Andi Stewart

  • The Melba Spiegeltent 35 Johnston Street Collingwood, VIC, 3066 Australia (map)

Slama acknowledges that our slam takes place in Naarm, on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, no treaty was signed and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

The second last slam of the year, the points are accumulating for our two year reason.

A reminder that the repeat rule applies to poems from the beginning of the season, August 2018, not this August.

Our feature for October is Tasmanian slam poet and APS runner-up Andi Stewart

A new name on the block, Andi has been playing with words since they were a girl. Three-time Australian Poetry Slam finalist, they run multiple poetry events in Hobart, have worked for organisations such as the Byron Bay Writers on the Road Tour, TasPride, the Nayri Niara good spirit festival, and the Hobart writers festival, and have featured at multiple events including GriffithSlam 2018 and 2019 and Rye Words at Dark Mofo. Their poetry will take you through all things queer, Christian, and meta cognitive, with a little side of love.

Slama is a three-round poetry slam, judged by random (but fairly represented) members of the audience. You've got 3 minutes to perform a poem of your own original work, with no props or costumes. You must not repeat poems previously used in an open slam (Grand Slams, off-season slams don't count) from August 2018 onwards.

The top 6 from the first round go to the second round, and the top 3 from the second round's cumulative scores go to the final round, and one is crowned winner each month. 1st place wins $50 cash and a video on the Melbourne Spoken Word video channels.

If you want to slam, you have to show up at 6.30pm sharp and at 6.45pm, we draw 12 names from the hat. If your name is not drawn, you can be guaranteed entry for next month.
