Grand Slam featuring wāni

  • The Melba Spiegeltent 35 Johnston Street Collingwood, VIC, 3066 Australia (map)

Slamalamadingdong acknowledges that our event takes place on stolen land, the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, no treaty was signed and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Slama invites you to our biggest night of the year. The top twelve poets from the past season compete over three rounds to decide our Grand Slam Champion, plus the top four poets get on Team Slama, competing at the National Poetry Slam in Chicago in August this year.

Featuring our 2017 Grand Slam Champion, wani. One of Melbourne's most talented and affecting poets. He's the curator of Sapologie, and part of poetic band, Band of Brothaz.

This is a closed slam. The top 12 poets after our regular NPS season from August to April, are invited to compete for a chance to be on the NPS team. Finalists to be announced.

ABOUT WĀNI
wāni is a proud descendant of the bashi peoples of wallungu as well as the current incarnation of the Afronaut. He spends a majority of his times teleporting through different universes and time-scapes navigating between dreams of becoming the fire-fist pirate king Hokage master of all four elements, and unfolding tales from a generation of peoples who quite honestly might be too good for this universe. You can find him currently manifesting the form of a polyglot living and creating on the occupied lands of Narrm
